Shoals native, Bama star Sears signs NBA deal with Milwaukee

MUSCLE SHOALS — University of Alabama All-American basketball star Mark Sears has signed a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Though he went undrafted in this week’s NBA Draft, the guard now gets his chance with the Bucks. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported news of the two-way deal. A two-way deal allows players to split time between the NBA club and its G League team, the Wisconsin Herd.

In a story by Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bucks assistant general manager Milt Newton praised Sears’ talents.

“He’s a hell of a guard,” Newton said. “Really strong. Can defend. There has been a lot of guys that weren’t drafted that were definitely draftable, he happens to be one of them.”

Sears, a Muscle Shoals native, spent the past three seasons playing for the Crimson Tide, leading Alabama to the Final Four in 2024, the Elite Eight in 2025, and the Sweet Sixteen in 2023.

He began his college career at Ohio University and transferred to Alabama prior to the 2022 season. He scored 2,841 career points, putting him at No. 19 in Division I history. He scored 1,950 of his points at Alabama, putting him at second in program history.

Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats posted his congratulations on social media.

Alabama forward Grant Nelson has signed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, UA also announced. Nelson went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft.

If Nelson makes it with the Nets, he will join former Alabama forward Noah Clowney.
