OWENS CROSS ROADS — Boasting a “unique twist” on Mediterranean street food, a restaurant is making its Alabama debut at the Food City center in Owens Cross Roads.

Spitz Mediterranean, named after the Mediterranean art of cooking meat on a spit, is known for its fresh, fast-casual menu and lively atmosphere.

“We are thrilled to bring Spitz to Alabama for the very first time,” said Lauren Ricci, owner of Spitz. “… the dynamic community and the exciting new Food City development make this the perfect location to introduce our brand.

“We look forward to becoming a go-to spot for locals seeking bold flavors and a welcoming atmosphere.”

Founded with a mission to bring fresh, bold Mediterranean flavors to communities across the country, Spitz has grown in popularity for its signature dishes, including doner wraps, falafel, hummus, loaded fries, and craft beverages.

The addition of Spitz is part of a broader effort to make the Food City center a hub for community-focused dining and retail, according to Anusha Alapati Davis, vice president of retail for Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate.

“Our vision for this center is to create a neighborhood destination that offers diverse and exciting options for residents,” said Davis, who played a key role in securing Spitz for the  location. “Spitz fits perfectly into that vision, and we’re confident it will be a favorite among locals. I look forward to helping Spitz grow their brand across the state.”

In addition to its signature menu, Spitz features craft cocktails and locally inspired beer selections, making it a place for after-work gatherings or weekend outings. The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating options, with plans for community-focused events and partnerships.

An opening date late this summer is anticipated.
