Storms, some possibly strong to severe, likely overnight into Tuesday

HUNTSVILLE — While today is a pleasant one in the Tennessee Valley, there will be some things bumping in the night.

After a partly sunny and breezy day with high temperatures approaching 70, it will get windy overnight with gusts as high as 25 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, there are high chances of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall late tonight into early Tuesday.

A low chance of strong to severe storms continues Tuesday after daybreak, the weather office said. Some heavier rainfall between 1 and 2 inches with locally higher amounts will likely occur as well.

Tuesday’s forecast is a soggy one with showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. The high will be near 70 with south southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Much cooler temperatures are forecast later this week, with Wednesday and Thursday nights dropping below freezing through most of the area.
