Strong steps ahead: Huntsville opens registration for Girls on the Run

HUNTSVILLE — Huntsville Parks & Recreation invites girls in grades 3-5 to build confidence with every stride by participating in the Girls on the Run 2026 season.

The popular program is designed to inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities and confidently stand up for themselves and others.

Sessions run March 2 through May 18 and meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 4–5:30 p.m. To support the program’s continued growth, teams will be offered at the Fern Bell Recreation Center and the Dr. Richard Showers Sr. Recreation Center. Each site is limited to 15 participants.

Tania Jessie, wellness and fitness programmer at the Johnson Legacy Center, is returning as one of the program’s coaches.

“Year after year, our trained coaches lead with an open heart and express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words and actions to inspire girls to recognize their individual strengths,” Jessie said. “The curriculum is amazing. Some lessons include being a good friend, communication and positive self-talk, all designed to transform and strengthen the next generation of girls!”

Program participants also have a chance to participate in a celebratory end of season 5K.

The cost per participant is $20. Registration is open until Feb. 16 and is available through the Girls on the Run North Alabama website.
