HUNTSVILLE — There is a low chance of strong to severe storms this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service Huntsville office.

If these materialize, they will bring damaging winds and flooding to the Tennessee Valley. The office said there is “low confidence” in chances for tornadoes.

“In addition to the severe risk, a non-thunderstorm wind threat also exists,” the office said. “This means gusty winds up to 35-40 mph are possible even during times when it is not raining.”

Meanwhile, one to two inches of rain has already fallen throughout most of the Tennessee Valley this week, the office said.

“An additional one-half to one inch of rain is forecast today through Thursday night,” the weather service said. “Rises on rivers, creeks, and streams are likely.”
