‘Tis nobler in the mind to win the Rocket City Playwrights’ Series competition

(Theatre Huntsville contributed)

HUNTSVILLE – “Write till your ink be dry, and with your tears moist it again, and frame some feeling line that may discover such integrity.”

“Two Gentlemen of Verona” was one of, if not the first of, William Shakespeare’s plays and we all know how audiences have responded to him.

Theatre Huntsville and Evil Cheez Productions invited local writers in the spring to submit original 10-minute plays for the Rocket City Playwrights’ Series competition.

On Saturday, five local playwrights, chosen from among dozens of submissions, present their works at the Studio Theatre at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. The presentations will be 7 p.m. in a readers’ theatre format by members of the two theatre groups. The audience will vote on the top three for cash prizes.

How will their works play in front of a live audience? Might they discover some modern day Shakespeares among them?

The five plays are “A Clean Slate” by Lillian Wells; “Cheeseburger in a Casket” by LeeAnn Treece; “Murder Mystery Indeed” by Naomi Howard; “Speed Dating for the Recently Deceased” by Pamela Manasco; and “Trust Me She’s Dead” by LeeAnn Smith.

The plays are family friendly and anyone can cast a vote.

Evil Cheez Productions is the home base for writer/director/producer Wayne Miller.

Theatre Huntsville is a nonprofit community theatre. Performances are on the Main Stage at the VBC Playhouse and Studio Theatre at Lowe Mill.

Tickets are $10 and on sale now by clicking here.
