‘Trade in your ordinary for extraordinary’: HPD opens applications for next round of recruits

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Police Department is calling all individuals who are looking to make a positive and lasting impact on the city.

The department announced today the application process for its 73rd police academy is open.

“Joining the Huntsville Police Department is more than just a job – it’s a calling to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” said HPD Chief Kirk Giles. “Our officers are the backbone of a community-focused mission, and Huntsville offers a supportive and rewarding environment to grow as a public servant.”

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be admitted:

  • U.S. citizen
  • 20 years of age to apply, 21 years of age at the time of graduation
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Graduate with a high school diploma or GED
  • Pass interview board, drug screening, medical examination and polygraph
  • Previous military must have received an honorable discharge on DD214

The deadline to apply is 6 p.m. Feb. 28.
