UNA encourages community to welcome students by helping Unpack the Pride

FLORENCE — As anxious parents send their freshmen off to college and upperclassmen return to campus, the housing department at the University of North Alabama invites the community to join in welcoming students back.

Unpack The Pride is the kick-off event to MANE Month at University of North Alabama. From Aug. 11-13, the Department of Housing and Residence Life encourages faculty, staff, students, alumni, individuals, and organizations from UNA and the Shoals to greet the Class of 2026 and returning students as they arrive on campus and help them move into the residence halls.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring smiles, muscles, and sun protection to help ensure fall semester gets off to a great start. Water, a boxed lunch, and maybe a few popsicles will be provided. As a thank-you, volunteers will be given a T-shirt to wear so students and their families will know who they can ask for assistance. Click this link to volunteer.

Some things volunteers will help with include:

  • unloading vehicles
  • carrying items to residence rooms
  • directing traffic / parking assistance
  • administrative tasks
  • door greeters
  • general assistance

Unpack the Pride begins Aug. 11 at 8 a.m. Volunteers can park at Collegeview Church of Christ at 851 N. Pine Street, near the UNA baseball field. A purple-and-white tent will be set up behind Rice Hall (across the street from Collegeview Church of Christ) for check-in. Arrive 15 minutes before your shift. Each day will have a morning and afternoon shift.
