HUNTSVILLE – To provide a safer and more secure environment for fans, the Von Braun Center is implementing a bag policy for Propst Arena.

The policy, which is already in effect for Huntsville Havoc games, will now cover all events in the arena. It goes into effect Saturday.

“Safety and security are our top priorities for guests and staff,” said VBC Executive Director Steve Maples. “Enhancing existing security measures with this updated bag policy is a positive step forward. To minimize confusion and maintain consistent messaging across all arena events, we are joining the many large entertainment venues and sports franchises across the country to adopt this new bag policy for Propst Arena.
“We look forward to providing a faster, more efficient entry process for guests attending events at the VBC Propst Arena.”

The VBC recommended visitors to leave bags at home, however, if a bag is necessary, it must meet the following criteria:

CLEAR BAGS

  • Clear bags cannot exceed 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches
  • Includes clear backpacks, clear fanny packs, clear clutch bags, clear diaper bags, clear medical bags and clear one-gallon plastic food storage bags that fit within the permissible dimensions.
  • Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC (not mesh).
  • Bags cannot be tinted with color or include imagery preventing visibility into the clear bag.
  • No buckles, grommets/hardware or décor can be concealing any part of the clear bag.
 NON-CLEAR BAGS
  • Non-clear bags under 5 inches by 7 inches will be permitted. Any type of non-clear bag exceeding 5-by-7 will not be permitted inside the arena.
  • Diaper bags and medical bags must be clear and meet VBC Bag Policy specifications. Baby and infant care items (bottled formula/milk, small snacks) are allowed in the clear diaper bag but must have a child present.

VBC officials said the new bag policy only applies to events at Propst Arena. All other VBC entertainment venues – Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, Mars Music Hall, and The Playhouse – will continue normal procedures.

Before attending an event at any VBC venue, guests are encouraged to visit the VBC website for additional guidelines and to see the full list of prohibited items.

“Huntsville Havoc implemented a similar policy for the last couple of seasons,” Maples said.  “Additionally, we are seeing an increase in more touring shows requiring our staff to enforce similar bag policies for their events when they come to our arena which,  unfortunately, causes confusion to attendees when they are expecting normal VBC entry procedures and security protocols.”

“To minimize confusion and maintain consistent messaging across all arena events, we are joining the many large entertainment venues and sports franchises across the country to adopt this new bag policy for Propst Arena. We look forward to providing a faster, more efficient entry process for guests attending events at the VBC Propst Arena.”
