MADISON – Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux celebrated its opening Monday at Clift Farms with a sizable donation to the local non-profit Manna House, a food distribution program in Huntsville.
“This will feed a lot of families in our community,” said Manna House founder Fran Fluhler. “This is such a blessing.”
This is the 88th location of Walk-On’s and the first in North Alabama.
COO Kendall Ware said the restaurant was started by college students Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, who were walk-ons on the LSU basketball team.
“They sketched out the plan for Walk-On’s on the back of a napkin and submitted it as a project in a class at LSU,” Ware said. “They got a C.”
Ware said they kept at it and the first Walk-on’s opened in 2003.
Famed for its menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads as well as Cajun cuisine such as fried alligator and Boudin Balls, Walk-On’s was named the No. 1 brand in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2020 top New Franchise ranking, out of the list’s top 100 companies submitted for Entrepreneur’s 2019 Franchise 500.

Walk-On’s joins more than 20 restaurants opened or announced at Clift Farm, 520-acre mixed-use development on the outskirts of Madison along U.S. 72 in Madison County.
