HUNTSVILLE — Former Huntsville School Board member Michelle Watkins defeated City Councilman Devyn Keith in a runoff election Tuesday for City Council’s District 1 seat.
In another District 1 runoff, Chaundra Jones defeated Pat King for the vacant school board seat.
In unofficial results, Watkins, who had the most votes in the general election, received 2,278 votes (54.39%) to Keith’s 1,910 (45.61%) to unseat the two-term incumbent.
Last month, Watkins garnered 49.51% of the vote (1,963 votes) over Keith, who had 40.83% (1,619 votes). Reggie McKenzie was third with 9.66% (383 votes).
In the school board race Tuesday, Jones received 2,213 votes (52.2%) over King’s 1,935 (47.8%) to win the seat. Jones also talled more votes than King (1,506-1,342) in last month’s election.
The election results will be canvassed at noon Oct. 1. Newly elected officials will be sworn into office Nov. 4.
